Professor Miying Yang, Professor in Sustainability, 91Âé¶¹ School of Management

Dr Miying Yang is a Professor in Sustainability at the 91Âé¶¹ School of Management. She holds a PhD degree from the Centre for Industrial Sustainability at University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on studying how companies move towards sustainability and circular economy through digitalisation and business model innovation.

She is enthusiastic about developing practical tools from her research to solve problems faced in companies. She has developed the Sustainable Value Analysis Tool to help many companies identify opportunities for sustainable value creation throughout the product life cycle. She is currently the module leader of the Leading Sustainable Business module on 91Âé¶¹'s Executive MBA.

Ed CameronEd Robinson, Head of Sustainability, Wells & Co.

As Head of Sustainability for Bedford family brewers and pub company Wells & Co., I'm committed to bringing our Triple Bottom Line philosophy to life. The model of the Triple Bottom Line is rapidly gaining momentum across forward-thinking businesses and holds obvious appeal for us at Wells & Co as we approach our 150th anniversary. Instead of focusing on just a single bottom line – profit – the Triple Bottom Line model, incorporating Planet, People and Profit requires us to focus attention on social and environmental issues alongside our financial targets.

This means evolving the ways we’ve traditionally done business in many respects; we’re already well on our way to ensuring that our family business is fit for the next 150 years.

Jon ThornesJon Thornes MBE, Nature-Friendly Farmer and Environmental Entrepreneur

Jon Thornes is a nature-friendly farmer and environmental entrepreneur, dedicated to fostering biodiversity and sustainability at South Ormsby Estate in the Lincolnshire Wolds. Known for his innovative approach to land management, Jon’s “Jurassic Park moment” invites visitors to experience the thriving populations of wild birds across the estate—a testament to the impact of sustainable practices.

At the heart of South Ormsby’s transformation is the integration of biodiversity with a dynamic business model. Jon oversees a diverse range of sustainable ventures, from organic food production to biochar products aimed at soil improvement. His energy business is a key component, with renewable energy sources such as solar power and biomass helping the estate reduce its environmental footprint. Jon also champions community engagement through initiatives like the Saturday Club, which connects volunteers to conservation projects.

In addition to his role at South Ormsby, Jon was named 91Âé¶¹ Entrepreneur of the Year in 2016, reflecting his ongoing leadership in entrepreneurship. His vision is a future where business, nature, and community thrive together.

Datis GolDatis Gol, Director, Bucks Star Beer

Datis Gol is the Director of Bucks Star Beer, a sustainable brewery based in Milton Keynes that blends legal insight, ethical business practice, and environmental responsibility. A First-Class Law graduate with an LLM in Banking and Jurisprudence, Datis began his career in banking, where he was recognised as an A-rated employee. However, after resigning in 2013, a growing curiosity about what constituted “real beer” — something he knew little about at the time — inspired him to pursue a more values-driven path.

Drawing on his legal background, Datis founded Bucks Star to exemplify integrity in enterprise, embedding sustainability into every stage of production. From renewable energy use and organic sourcing to the pioneering Growler Swap refill scheme that eliminates single-use packaging, Bucks Star operates on circular economy principles. Its small scale allows for unfiltered, unpasteurised beer that retains its natural benefits while minimising waste and processing. Through the Brewery Tap House — an extension of the brewery — Datis has created a community space that supports local and organic producers, reflecting his belief that business should serve both people and planet. His vision is a future where artisanship, authenticity, and sustainability are the hallmarks of modern enterprise.
